What should a Raleigh business budget for a website?
Website quotes are easier to compare when you know what is included. A Raleigh business owner choosing between a small upfront payment and a larger custom project needs to understand both the build and the ongoing arrangement. Here is a practical way to plan your budget without assuming every website has the same needs.

Start with scope before comparing prices
A 5-page website with supplied content is a different project from a large site that needs extensive writing, custom functionality, and integrations. Before asking for a quote, list the essential pages, what each page should accomplish, and the features you need.
Identify who will provide the logo, photos, and written information. Ask how many design review rounds are included and what happens if the brief changes. A clear scope makes it easier to compare proposals and avoid paying for functionality you will not use.
Separate design and launch from ongoing service
The upfront work can include planning, page structure, visual design, mobile layouts, contact paths, revisions, and launch preparation. Monthly service can cover hosting, support, and content updates, depending on the plan.
A low setup fee may spread some of the build cost across future monthly payments. That can be helpful for cash flow, but it is worth comparing the overall cost and cancellation terms. A larger upfront fee does not automatically mean that the client owns portable website files; read the agreement.
Compare RULA’s website plans
Managed Hosting is $999 setup plus $50/month for a custom 5-page leased website and managed hosting. Website Care is $999 setup plus $150/month and adds ongoing maintenance, 2 hours of monthly revisions, and priority support. SEO Growth is an optional $499/month local SEO add-on with no additional setup fee; it does not include website design.
Compare Managed Hosting and Website Care and the optional SEO Growth add-on for current prices, inclusions, and billing details. Additional standard pages are quoted separately. Your proposal confirms the timeline and payment schedule before work begins.
Choose support based on your business goals
Website Care keeps your website current and maintained. SEO Growth adds local search strategy, Google Business Profile management, monthly SEO content, and performance reporting.
Website Care includes 2 hours of monthly website revisions. Managed Hosting changes are quoted separately. SEO Growth includes SEO-related changes and blog writing separately from general revisions. Unused revision time does not roll over. New pages, major redesigns, advanced features, and work beyond the allowance are quoted separately.
Ask about ownership and cancellation
Managed Hosting and Website Care are leased websites owned by RULA. Setup fees and monthly payments do not lead to ownership. The website cannot be exported or transferred, and cancellation takes it offline at the end of the paid service period. Your domain and original business materials remain yours. Both plans are month-to-month with no commitment and can be cancelled at any time; service ends at the end of the paid service period.
Budget for visibility separately from building
A new website and an ongoing marketing campaign serve different purposes. The site gives visitors a place to learn about your business and contact you. Local SEO works on relevant search visibility over time; every website receives basic search readiness, while SEO Growth includes ongoing strategy, optimization, profile management, and reporting. Hosting-only service does not include an ongoing SEO campaign.
If you want to reach customers in Raleigh, Cary, Durham, or another Triangle community, discuss your real service area and priorities. Start with goals you can measure, such as useful inquiries, rather than expecting a launch to deliver a particular search position.
Use a simple proposal comparison checklist
- Which pages, features, and content responsibilities are included?
- What are the design review rounds and expected timeline?
- What monthly service is required, and what does it cover?
- How are additional revisions and new pages priced?
- What are the domain, website ownership, and cancellation terms?
For a project-specific estimate, tell RULA about your website needs. Include your business, preferred design direction, target customers, and requested features. You can also use our Raleigh website planning checklist to prepare your brief.
